A Historic Legacy: 150 Years of Fishing
Where Destin Began
HarborWalk Marina occupies the sacred ground where Leonard Destin first settled in the mid-19th century. It was here that the unique geography of the Emerald Coast was discovered—where the deep water of the continental shelf dips closer to the shore than anywhere else in Florida, creating a fishing paradise.
Today, walking the docks at HarborWalk is a lesson in history. You will see the descendants of those original fishing families still captaining the boats. The marina is home to the Destin Fishing Fleet, a collection of beautifully maintained sportfishers and party boats that head out every morning at dawn. The sight of the fleet returning in the late afternoon, backing into their slips with flags flying to signal their catch, is a daily ritual that draws crowds of onlookers. It is an authentic, working waterfront experience that has remained unchanged in spirit for generations.
Transient Docking & Slip Specifications
Accommodating the Cruising Elite
While much of the harbor is dedicated to the commercial fleet, HarborWalk Marina maintains premium slip space for transient vessels. Whether you are looping the Great Loop, running a sportfish yacht from Texas, or cruising down from Tennessee, this is the premier stopover in Destin.
- Slip Capacity: The marina offers transient docking for vessels ranging from 30 feet to over 100 feet in length.
- Mega-Yacht Capable: The face docks and T-heads are designed to accommodate large motor yachts, offering deep water and easy maneuvering space.
- Dock Construction: The docks are sturdy, fixed wooden structures with heavy-duty pilings, essential for securing vessels against the strong tidal currents of the pass.
- Reservations: Due to the popularity of Destin as a destination, slip reservations are highly recommended, especially during the summer season (May-August) and during the Destin Fishing Rodeo in October.
Navigation & Approach: East Pass
The Gateway to the Gulf
Navigating to HarborWalk Marina is exhilarating. The water transitions from the deep cobalt blue of the Gulf to the stunning emerald green that gives this coast its name.
The Approach:
Enter via the East Pass (Destin Pass). This is a federal channel protected by jetties. Use caution, as the pass can be dynamic with strong tidal currents and shifting shoals. Once inside the jetties, HarborWalk Marina is immediately to your starboard side (East). You do not need to navigate the entire harbor to reach it; it is the “first stop” inside the bridge.
Depth & Draft:
The approach channel is maintained, generally offering 12+ feet of depth. The marina basin and face docks typically hold 8-10 feet, accommodating most deep-draft recreational vessels. Captains should be mindful of the current when docking, as the proximity to the pass means the tide moves swiftly.
Bridge Clearance:
The Marler Bridge (Destin Bridge) crosses the harbor entrance with a vertical clearance of 49 feet. Most powerboats fit easily, but tall sailboats typically anchor in the bay or dock at facilities with unrestricted overhead clearance if their mast exceeds this height.
HarborWalk Village: Entertainment & Dining
A Resort Destination at Your Helm
Docking at HarborWalk Marina puts you in the center of the action. You step off your boat directly into HarborWalk Village, a sprawling waterfront entertainment complex.
- Dining: You are steps away from iconic restaurants. Harry T’s Lighthouse offers seafood and history, while Margaritaville provides the classic island vibe. For a more upscale experience, Grande Vista Bar & Grill at the Emerald Grande offers breathtaking views of the pass.
- Entertainment: The village is alive with activity. Visitors can ride the dual ziplines that soar over the marina, try rock climbing, or rent paddleboards.
- Nightlife: As the sun sets, the harbor lights up. Live music drifts from multiple venues, including Coyote Ugly and AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar (a short water taxi ride away). It is a high-energy atmosphere perfect for crews looking to blow off steam.

Crab Island & Water Sports Access
The Ultimate Playground
HarborWalk Marina is the closest marina to Crab Island, the famous submerged sandbar that sits just north of the Marler Bridge.
The Experience:
Crab Island is not an island, but a shallow, crystal-clear flat where hundreds of boats anchor to wade, party, and relax. Floating vendors sell boiled peanuts, pizza, and ice cream. Docking at HarborWalk allows you to beat the traffic; you can be anchored at the best spot on the sandbar minutes after untying your lines.
Rentals:
The marina and village offer pontoon boat rentals, jet ski rentals, and kayak tours, making it easy for guests without their own tender to explore the surrounding waters.
Fuel, Power & Boater Services
Professional Support for Captains
Despite the resort atmosphere, HarborWalk is a serious marina with professional facilities.
- Fuel Dock: The high-speed fuel dock dispenses ValvTect Marine Diesel and Ethanol-Free Gasoline (Rec-90). The pumps are designed for high volume, allowing large sportfishers to bunker quickly. The fuel dock is located for easy approach, minimizing maneuvering in the harbor traffic.
- Electrical: Pedestals provide 30 AMP, 50 AMP, and 100 AMP service (single/three-phase). The power grid is robust, capable of supporting the heavy air conditioning loads of large yachts in the Florida summer.
- Pump-Out: A pump-out station is available at the fuel dock.
- Ship Store: The on-site store carries essential provisions: bagged ice, bait, tackle, cold drinks, and marine supplies.
Events: Fireworks & The Fishing Rodeo
The Destin Fishing Rodeo Headquarters
HarborWalk Marina is the stage for Destin’s biggest events.
- Destin Fishing Rodeo: For the entire month of October, the marina becomes the center of the angling world. Every charter boat brings its catch to the scales located right on the HarborWalk docks. Thousands of spectators gather daily to watch giant Grouper, Shark, and Tuna being weighed. Docking here during October puts you in the front row of this historic spectacle.
- Weekly Fireworks: During the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day), the marina hosts a spectacular fireworks display every Thursday night over the harbor. There is no better view than from the aft deck of your own boat in the slip.
- Rock the Docks: Live concert series held on the waterfront stage add to the festive atmosphere on weekends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the marina accessible for sailboats?
Yes, but with caveats. The Destin Bridge (Marler Bridge) has a 49-foot vertical clearance. If your mast is shorter than 49 feet, you can enter the harbor easily. If your mast is taller, you cannot pass under the bridge to access the bay, but HarborWalk Marina is located just inside the pass. You may be able to dock at the outer face docks depending on conditions, but you should call the dockmaster specifically to discuss vertical clearance and slip location.
How strong is the current in the marina?
Because the marina is located near the East Pass, tidal currents can be significant, especially during moon tides. It is recommended to dock at slack tide if possible, or be prepared to use spring lines and plenty of fenders. The dockhands are experienced and ready to assist.
Is there trailer parking available?
Parking is a premium in Destin. The Emerald Grande has a parking garage, but boat trailer parking is generally not available on-site for transient guests. There are off-site storage lots in the area that the marina staff can recommend.
Can I fish off the docks?
Fishing off the marina docks is generally prohibited due to the heavy boat traffic and commercial operations. However, you can charter a boat from the marina or fish from the jetties nearby.
Is the marina pet-friendly?
Yes, HarborWalk Village and the marina docks are pet-friendly. Many restaurants offer outdoor seating where dogs are welcome.
